FAQ

.

How do I send my documents to participate in this launch?

When you place you order, you will need to choose which of four categories you fall into. This will give your request legitimacy and allow your domain name to be dealt with as a priority.

Furthermore, it's important that you choose the correct category, so that the supporting documents you send are suitable for the category.

After your purchase order has been validated, you wioll receive an email asking you to download your supporting documents from the Control Panel.

Once you've downloaded these documents, your request will be monitored by our domain team, who is in charge of registering your request with the registry.
.

I'm applying on behalf of a commune (French municipality) or commune community (grouped French municipalities). How do I register my domain name?

From 19 January 2015, domain names of communes from (French municipalities) of the Alsace region will be blocked from registration during a period of 18 months.

This means that only communes from (French municipalities) and commune communities (grouped French municipalities) are eligible to register such domain names. Il convient que le contact propriétaire soit créé au nom de la commune (Nic registrant).

The registrar will let us know after the 18 months if these domains are open to all.
.

When will the .alsace extension be available?

The Sunrise phases from 19 January to 20 March of the .alsace extension give grandfather rights* to TMCH-registered trademarks, French, Community or international trademarks referring to France (proof to be submitted: INPI or OHIM or WIPO registration), companies, public and semi-public entities and associations (proof of eligibility: INSEE document), associations (proof of eligibility: INSEE document, excerpt from the TI – court of first instance – registry).

Then, from 7 April, the .alsace extension will be open to all.

*subject to all registration criteria being met
.

What is the Sunrise phase in the launch of .alsace?

Sunrise is a registration period reserved for eligible applicants, during which they can register their name or trademark by providing proof of eligibility.

For the .alsace extension, the launch phase lasts two months and is divided into three simultaneous Sunrise periods, open to the following applicants by order of priority:

TMCH-registered trademarks
French, Community or international trademarks referring to France (proof to be submitted: INPI or OHIM or WIPO registration)
Companies (company name, trade name, brand name or acronym, subject to presenting a “Kbis” company registration certificate), public and semi-public entities (proof of eligibility: INSEE document), associations (proof of eligibility: INSEE document, excerpt from the TI – court of first instance – registry)

At the end of the launch phase, the domain names are allocated based on various criteria, by priority level and on a first-come, first-served basis.

This phase protects certain names and trademarks and prevents the wrongful use of your domain name (cybersquatting).
.

How do I register my .alsace domain name?

Only registrars accredited by .alsace may register domain names. OVH is accredited for this extension. You may order your domain from our website.
.

What is a premium domain?

A premium domain is a domain that has a high market value. Usually, it's a generic domain name, such as property.alsace, cycling.alsace, foiegras.alsace or house-rentals.alsace, marriage.alsace, sushis.alsace, etc.

So-called premium domains are more expensive to register.

Please note: the registry doesn't currently communicate the prices of premium domains on their website.

You will be able to request premium domains as soon as the Landrush period opens on 19 January 2015. At the end of this period, if several applicants have requested the same premium domain, its price will be determined through bidding at an auction, starting at the premium price.

From 7 April 2015, when the extension is made available to the general public, premium domains will be registered in the same way as any other domain, and granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Premium domain names will renew at the standard .alsace price. There is no additional cost for renewing a premium domain.

This solution for important generic domains prevents speculative registrations.
.

What does 'General Availability', or 'Go Live', mean in the launch of the .alsace extension?

This is the last phase in the launch of .alsace. During the General Availability (GoLive) period, which begins on 7 April 2015, anyone in the world can register the .alsace domain name of their choice, and will be granted it on a first-come, first-served basis.
.

What is the TMCH – Trademark Clearinghouse?

It's an organisation created to protect trademark owners during the launch of new domain name extensions. The TMCH offers trademark owners the opportunity to register their trademarks in a centralised, international database. If your trademark is registered in the TMCH database, you can participate in the Sunrise periods for all new extensions. You will also be notified if your trademark is subject to potential abuse. If a third party registers the name of your trademark under a new extension, for example, you will receive a notification from the TMCH.
.

Can IDNs (internationalized domain names) be registered with a .alsace extension?

No, not for now, because IDNs will not be available when .alsace launches.

IDNs allow you to register domain names containing accented or special characters.

The registry will probably integrate them. This is one of the issues remaining to be settled. .alsace will provide information regarding the launch of IDNs as soon as possible.
