BHS 3.0: OVH.com speeds up its North American development
The first thing one notices when visiting the construction site is that the new hosting spaces will now be containers and not towers anymore. The location, previously owned by the company Rio Tinto Alcan, an aluminum smelter, covers a large area, thus providing enough space to build horizontally shaped spaces. “We optimize our performances by deploying our infrastructure faster, while giving our teams the opportunity to have a better reactivity when it comes to servers maintenance and problem solving”, enthusiastically says Fabrice Fossaert, operating manager of BHS.
The main goal of every OVH.com expert is to lower production and construction costs, while optimizing performance. This way, it does not only positively impact the servers’ efficiency, but also the prices of the hosting offers.
Fabrice hereby explains how this new phase of the project will answer the growing needs of the users and which industrialization strategies were put in place:
“OVH.com takes on quite a task by developing its own assembly line within the datacenter. From the manufacturing of the container by the OVH.com experts in Europe, to the construction of the bays, or the assembling of the motherboards at BHS, the whole process is industrialized and optimized internally. Industrialization is the driving force of OVH.com.”
The growth spurt of the Cloud, which now generates over 150 billion dollars**, combined with that of OVH.com’s clientele, which will soon be over 1 million users worldwide, explain why the construction of this phase started so quickly, not long after after the completion of tower no. 2.
This expansion will also help OVH.com in the constant improvement of its hosting offers available directly from its North-American datacenter, including the following: the original brand “OVH.com”, which was entirely rethought at the beginning of 2014 to provide top-of-the-line services; RunAbove, the public Cloud service made in OVH.com; So You Start, a new brand launched at the beginning of the year with mid-range solutions; and Kimsufi, a line of dedicated servers at unbeatable prices.
The appeal of BHS can also be explained by its “vertical offer, implemented worldwide, based on a process of industrialization and optimization. OVH.com has 30 points of presence (PoP) and its own optic fiber network of a capacity of 3 Tbps, which is a first across the world, says Fabrice. The latency is very low, so the final users can save precious milliseconds.”
