Built with sturdy CPU (of 6 to 16 cores) and loaded with RAM (up to 256 GB), the ENTERPRISE servers are made to answer every need that a SME can have when it comes to Internet management: hosting of the institution’s website, extranet and intranet, messaging, CRM, business application, collaborative tools, VPN, newsletters distribution, backups, etc. “It is the jack-of-all-trades server, meant for those who want as much hardware as possible for the lowest price. We are talking about multi-function servers with ENTERPRISE, which are not made for mutualization or building complex infrastructures.”

The “HOSTING” line: Virtualize and itemize resources

Delivered with an IP fail over pack with position determination technology routed live on your machine (from 16 + 32 to 128 IPv4), the HOSTING servers run on high frequency CPU (3.1 GHz+) and are rich in RAM (up to 128 GB). Made for virtualizing resources and mutualizing them on different projects and/or clients, they especially target web agencies, hosts and VAR; in other words any Internet or VPS hosting business. “The HOSTING servers are isolated from one another. They are conceived to work independently: the user will operate different VM on his machine, some as web front-end, the others as database hosts.” The 3-tier architecture is built inside a single machine, powerful enough to support multiple layers of virtualization. “To sum up, the HOSTING servers offer the best resources/power/price/IP ratio on the market for mutualization and consolidation of resources.”

The “INFRASTRUCTURE” line: to build complex, growing infrastructures in multiple datacenters

Inter-connectable – with no additional cost – on a private, multi-datacenter network, the INFRASTRUCTURE servers are designed for CIOs of big businesses, software and computing services companies, as well as editors commercializing products in SaaS mode and wishing to externalize parts or all of their computing system. “We are looking at (at least!) a 3-tier architecture when, from your station, you ask your server for an information and it refers to a third machine to get it (usually a database). Sometimes, it is even more complex than that: Private networks, with or without firewalls, link the servers to one another, with VMs and load balancers rounding up the device. It is the kind of infrastructure used to manage sensitive information, such as banking, accounting or financial records.”

These users are interested in building their multi-datacenter infrastructure over all the zones provided by OVH (Beauharnois in North-America, Roubaix, Gravelines and Strasbourg in Europe). Said infrastructure is perfect for business resumption/continuity plans (BRP/BCP). Finally, the servers of the INFRASTRUCTURE line are equipped with two network interface cards compatible with vRack and they are highly customizable: “With HG and BIG HG, we can almost talk about custom-made machines. Each of their components can be customized and up to three frames can be hooked up together to host a total of 36 disks (a capacity of 144 TB!). The user can define the profile of each of his machines in accordance to its role in the infrastructure: web front-end, database management, storage, load sharing, etc. To insure maximum availability (SLA), these machines are built in a way that they stay operational, even in the event of a technical problem.” The T3 machines are rigged with two 1 Gbps network ins and two redundant power sources, while the T4 machines (HG and BIG HG) have two 10 Gbps network ins, a minimum of two processors, two power supplies and two redundant power sources. The T4 servers also benefit from Hot Swap (the possibility to replace the server’s defective power supply or RAID disk without shutting down the system).

Shared options and a “follow-the-sun” support

While they are different in their configuration and usage, the servers still share some of the same services, such as a large selection of operating systems installable in a few clicks, a FTP backup of 500 GB, unlimited traffic, the opportunity to pick the location of your server and the anti-DDoS protection PRO (customizable). Now that OVH exists on three continents, its support has evolved. Depending on the time of the call, support will be offered by one of the teams of the hosting provider either in Canada, France or Tunisia. And those who feel the need to be assisted in the day-to-day small problems can subscribe to the Advanced support and be provided with first-class facilities management.
